First steps:
Repetition... repetition... repetition
There are two important ways of repeating signs to help the learning process.
Once you have introduced a sign to your baby, remember to use the gesture whenever the word comes up.
The more you repeat and reinforce, the quicker your baby will learn to associate the sign with the sound of that word, and with an object like a dummy, a nappy or a bottle.
You can also repeat a sign several times as you are talking. Signs replace sentences - so...
'Would you like some milk?'
becomes simply "Milk?".
While you might say the sentence two or three times, you can repeat the sign even more than that.
And as you repeat the sign, make sure that you are also repeating the facial expression, so that your baby associates the one with the other.
