Getting Ready:
What do I need to know?
Before you start signing with your baby, look at the advice in the First steps pages. It's spilt into the basics, repetition and baby's response. There's a helping hand page to solve any teething troubles, and Top Tips from parents who've already been there, done it and got the tee-shirt...
You’ll need to get to know the very small number of signs which you’ll be using early on. It won’t take long.
Have a look at the video clips and make sure you watch them several times so that you feel comfortable using the signs. Your gestures should be natural, not forced.
Each sign is shown in a montage from different angles so you can see easily how it is formed. There are also optional written descriptions of the signs and tips to help you with the right handshapes and facial expressions.
Parent Point
Angela and her 2 year old son Aaron learnt signing in just a few weeks
When you practise the signs, always say the word out loud, so that this is instinctive.
