Nicky thinks signing helped improve her child’s speech
He noticed how hearing babies of his deaf friends were communicating more easily and far earlier than babies of hearing parents. And that they were less demanding than non-signing babies because they could express themselves more directly.
Other studies, including those by Professors Acredelo and Goodwyn, have found that babies who sign have larger vocabularies, higher IQ’s and better social skills.
The reason to do ‘Baby Signs’ is not to raise IQ. The main reason to do it is for the social and emotional benefits – for the sense of connection between parent and child.”
