Introduction
How to use the word list
ITV BabySign offers a list of early words which are useful or fun to use with your baby. Don't expect your baby to master them all – use the ones which are relevant for your own family situation.
Words and simple phrases are listed in alphabetical order. A phrase like 'Don't touch' appears under D.
Some signs – like 'Full' and 'Enough' are the same, and appear twice.
When you click on any word or phrase, you will see a video montage of the sign(s) shown from different angles. It should help you to sign more easily.
For those of you who want to dig a little deeper into the art of signing, every sign has an accompanying written guide, which sometimes refers to some simple hand shapes used in British Sign Language. You can see examples of all the relevant hand shapes here.
Sign definitions may also refer to a letter from the BSL fingerspelling alphabet which you can also print out.
Don't forget that body language and animated facial expressions will really help your baby to remember the signs.
